Lease Returns

01 PREPARE TO RETURN YOUR VEHICLE

EARLY TURN-IN

Early termination charge if you turn in your vehicle more than 30 days early

  • If you return your vehicle more than 30 days before the end of the lease term without purchasing it, you may have to pay a substantial charge which could be several thousand dollars. The actual charge will depend on when the lease is terminated, but the earlier you end the lease, the greater the charge is likely to be. For additional information, see the Early Termination section of your Lease Agreement.

60 DAYS BEFORE YOU TURN IN YOUR VEHICLE

Review the Subaru Wear and Use guide

  • Review the Subaru Wear and Use guide to see if you may have anything wrong with your vehicle that may cause additional charges at the end of your lease.
  • Check that all the tires have at least 1/8th-inch tread at their lowest point and that they’re comparable with the original tires for the vehicle. For example — no snow tires, missing tires, damaged tires, etc.

Schedule a pre-inspection

  • If you’re not sure about the condition of your vehicle, you can schedule and inspection or contact us to make the appointment.
  • Make your appointment at least 45 days before your turn-in date to ensure you can get one that fits your schedule.
  • You can review your online condition report about 24 hours after your appointment.
  • If you don’t get a pre-inspection, we’ll still complete an inspection after you turn-in your vehicle, but you won’t have the ability to make repairs. Any excess wear and use charges will appear on your final bill.

Notify us of any recent repairs

  • If you make repairs to reduce your end-of-term liability2, let us know before you return your vehicle.
  • All repairs must be completed by a licensed repair facility. Please include receipts for all repairs.

  • Make sure that you turn off any automatic payments once your final payment has cleared. We cannot cancel these payments for you, so if you don't turn them off, you may be overcharged.

Schedule the return of your vehicle

  • Schedule an appointment to return your vehicle.

Find out local DMV requirements for turn-in

  • Contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles to see if there are specific turn-in requirements for your area. Your retailer may assist during your turn-in appointment, but it’s your responsibility to complete the state requirements.

Return your vehicle to the Subaru retailer

03 Complete Your Return

  • Finish these steps to complete your return
  • Complete the Digital Lease Turn-in form or contact us within 1 business day of vehicle turn-in to ensure that we have the correct date and information to calculate your lease-end bill, if you have one.
  • Pay your lease-end bill. If you have charges at the end of your lease, your bill will arrive about 30–60 days after the vehicle is returned. If you turn-in your vehicle early, or there’s a situation where the vehicle has to be sold, expect your bill about 90–120 days after turn-in.
